NEW YORK (AP) _ A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a commuter train during the evening rush hour Friday, officials said.
The Long Island Rail Road train was between stations in Queens when the incident occurred around 5:40 p.m., officials said.
The boy was in the company of a friend, who notified the police, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski, a police spokesman. No other details were immediately available about the incident and Czartoryski declined to identify the boy pending notification of relatives.
Service was suspended in both directions, causing backups at Pennsylvania Station in New York City as the investigation continued, said railroad spokeswoman Susan McGowan.
