SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) _ An explosion Tuesday ripped through a state police warehouse used to store guns and ammunition, killing one officer and injuring five, public safety officials said.
Police Col. Joviano Conceicao Lima said the cause of the explosion remains unknown but that authorities have ruled out the involvement of organized crime.
Sixteen vehicles used by riot officers, including a van with ammunition stored inside, were destroyed in the explosion, Lima said.
The explosion caused a fire that destroyed the warehouse located in a police complex near one of Sao Paulo's busiest highways.
