NEW YORK (AP) _ Oklahoma native and former New York Yankees star Bobby Murcer is to have surgery Thursday to remove a brain tumor

A New York newspaper says Murcer will have the surgery at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston.

The tumor was found following an MRI on Christmas Eve after Murcer had been suffering headaches and a loss of energy.

Murcer is from Oklahoma City and played 17 years in the major leagues with the Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs.

He retired in 1983 and is now a Yankees broadcaster.
