DEL CITY, Okla. (AP) Two Norman police officers have found a way for law enforcement officers all over the state to recognize Oklahoma's upcoming centennial.
Del City police officers received custom-made ``tin stars'' to commemorate the state's 100th birthday. Captain Jody Suit says the badges will be worn for one year, beginning January 1st.
V-and-V Manufacturing of Industry, California, has made more than 1,500 of the badges for law enforcement.
The badges were designed by Norman officers Robert Wasoski and Chuck Daily.
Wasoski says they initially planned to design a badge for their department alone, but opted instead to create one that all law enforcement could wear.
He says the badge is symbolic of the ones worn by peace officers in Indian Territory 100 years ago.
The six-pointed gold star with the gold Oklahoma seal in the middle resembles the badges that once had a hammered gold coin in the middle.
