Some Green Country kids go shopping for other kids, improving the coming holiday for those less fortunate. News on 6 reporter Rick Wells takes us along as some Justus-Tiawah fifth graders head to the Claremore Wal-Mart.

Here they come, a busload of fifth graders ready to shop. They selected four angels off the Angel Tree at the Rogers County Courthouse. Each student kicked in some money and Friday was shopping day.

"Lets think about price while we're shopping," said teacher Jennifer Admire.

There were four groups each with an Angel to buy for, they quickly learned what most parents already know; you can't have everything.

"Think that's out of our budget?" "Way out of our budget."

It's just one of the lesson the kids are learning, budgeting.

"First of all they are learning to be compassionate toward others," Admire said.

Particularly toward people they don't even know, so how's it going?

"We're doing great getting a lot of stuff for 'em," said teacher Kelly Buchanan.

There were tough choices, some they handled democratically.

“You need to decide if you're gonna get him a gun or a football."

"Mrs. Admire, this is $3.82." "Oh that's cute did you girls see this?"

The student shopped for about an hour aiming to get the most stuff for the money.

“We're spending too much!"

Oops more choices, in the end it all worked out.

The gifts they bought will be distributed by the Salvation Army just before Christmas.
