The Cherokee Nation has begun work on expanding its casino in West Siloam Springs.

The tribe announced Thursday, it will spend $55-million to expand the casino. Cherokee Nation Enterprises David Stewart says the expansion will allow the tribe to offer 40 poker and blackjack tables and about 1,250 gaming machines.

Construction is expected to take about 18 months.

The West Siloam Springs Casino is the seventh facility operated by the Cherokee Nation.
