A toddler remains in critical condition after a large television fell on him. Tulsa Police are investigating the incident, but say it appears to just be a terrible accident.

But News on 6 anchor Jennifer Loren says itâ€™s an accident that could have been avoided.

It's a heart-wrenching scene; a 2-year-old little boy was playing with a friend, and a moment later he was crushed under a television.

"It appears to be significant and critical injury to the child's head. He was transported to Saint Francis," Tulsa Police Sgt. Les Young said

Investigators say it was about a 27-inch television, it was set on top of a rolling TV stand.

"Apparently they for some reason wanted to change channels or doing something with the television," said Young.

It turns out; this type of accident is fairly common. About a year ago, another 2-year-old boy was crushed by a dresser that held a television. His parents reached out to others.

"I just don't want any parent to go through what we've been through because itâ€™s been rough," Sheila Rector said.

Police say parents with young children should take time out to secure heavy pieces of furniture, especially TVs.

"With toddlers they're climbing, they're jumping. You know you hear about child proofing your house, this is another example of maybe the nightstand wasn't secure or the TV stand wasn't secure," said Young.

Baby Proofers of Oklahoma say securing a TV can be as simple as buying a tether specially designed to be attached to your wall. Make sure they're secured at the top and into a wall stud, not just drywall.

"They should be attached so they can support the weight should it come to that," Ken Winters with Baby Proofers of Oklahoma said.
