LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) Chris Carpenter has his next five years guaranteed with the Cardinals. The St. Louis ace, who won the Cy Young Award in 2005, will get 65 million dollars over the five years of his new contract.
Carpenter had been signed through next season as part of an agreement that called for a seven million dollar salary next year. The team exercised his 2008 option at nine million as part of the new agreement and added guaranteed years through 2011 with a club option for 2012.
Carpenter's new deal would be worth 77 million dollars if the new option is exercised.
