MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) A ceremony next week will mark the renaming of the veterans hospital here after a Cherokee Indian.
The hospital's name was officially changed to the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in June after President Bush signed a law approving the change. This will be the will be the first VA hospital named after an American Indian
Montgomery, an eastern Oklahoma native, received the Medal of Honor for heroism during a 1944 World War II battle in Italy.
He received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and other honors for his service.
