AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The losing streak to Texas is over. Now maybe Texas A&M is ready to be a power in the Big 12 again.

Stephen McGee scored on an 8-yard run with less than 3 minutes to play and the Aggies stunned #11 Texas 12-7 behind a power running game and tough defense Friday to snap a 6-game losing streak in the bitter rivalry.

The Aggies (9-3, 5-3) rushed for 244 yards against the nation's top run defense and intercepted Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy 3 times, the last with just over a minute to play.

McCoy, who set a school record with 27 touchdown passes this season, was carted off the field after taking a hit on a pass attempt with 20 seconds left. He could be seen raising his left hand to the crowd as he left the field.

McCoy finished 17 of 28 for 160 yards in what was his worst game of the season. He threw an interception at the goal line at the end of the 1st half to kill one of the Longhorns' best drive.

The Aggies drove 88 yards for the winning score, chewing up nearly 9 minutes in the 4th quarter. Mark Goodson scored the first touchdown on a 41-yard scamper in the 1st quarter.

The Longhorns (9-3, 6-2) could have won the Big 12 South Division title with a win. The loss means the Longhorns need Oklahoma to lose to Oklahoma State on Saturday or the Sooners will win the division and play Nebraska on December 2nd for the league crown.

Texas, which lost November 11th to Kansas State, dropped consecutive games for the first time since 1999, which was the last time the Longhorns lost to the Aggies.

For Texas A&M, coach Dennis Franchione finally got a signature victory in his 4-year tenure in College Station. He is 2-10 against Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

And he got it with an option running game that only crossed into Texas territory 3 times but chewed up yards and critical minutes in the 4th quarter.

Texas took a 7-6 lead in the 3rd on Jamaal Charles' 6-yard TD run and had the Aggies pinned a their own 12 after a punt.

The Aggies converted four 1st downs on the winning drive, including a 14-yard run by McGee 3 plays before his touchdown run. The Aggies converted 10 of 16 on 3rd down in the game.

Texas looked like it could make easy work of the Aggies on their opening drive: McCoy was 5-5 and the Longhorns moved to the 9 before one tackle changed everything.

Texas sent 270-pound tailback Henry Melton into the line on 4th & 1 and Aggie linebacker Mark Dodge met him head on, dropping him for no gain.

The Aggies then went to work with their inside outside combination of McGee, Jorvorskie Lane and Goodson, converting three 3rd downs on their first drive. Goodson, squirting outside behind a good block in the secondary, dashed 41 yards for a 6-0 lead after kicker Layne Neumann missed the extra point.

The Aggies covered all 91 yards in the drive on the ground. The Longhorns came in giving up 42 yards rushing per game.

McGee, who was 7-13 passing for 58 yards, rushed for 95 yards on 18 carries. Goodson finished with 86 yards rushing and Lane, whose 280-pound frame pounded defenders on the winning drive, ran for 60.

Texas appeared to match the TD late in the 2nd but Limas Sweed was penalized for offensive pass interference in the end zone. McCoy threw his 5th interception of the season on the next play, a bad throw into coverage.

In the 3rd, A&M picked off McCoy's first pass when Chris Harrington hit his arm and Cyril Obiozor made a diving catch of the fluttering ball.

Then it was the Aggies who started making mistakes.

A&M wide receiver Kerry Franks fumbled on a reverse and the Longhorns recovered on the A&M 34. A pass interference near the goal line set up the Longhorns' only TD.

The Longhorns finished with 230 yards of total offense.
