WACO, Texas (AP) Oklahoma still has a chance to get into the Big 12 football title game thanks to an unexpected upset and an impressive comeback.
Their national title hopes were pretty much dashed in early October, but the 16th ranked Sooners got a sudden late season reprieve in the conference race.
Texas could have clinched the Big 12 South last weekend but was upset 45-42 by Kansas State. At the same time OU was overcoming a 2-touchdown deficit to beat Texas Tech.
The Sooners are now 8-2 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 play. They know they first have to win Saturday at Baylor.
The Bears are 4-7 overall and 3-4 in conference. Then OU would need some more help for their regular season finale at Oklahoma State to have title implications.
Texas beat OU to give the Longhorns the tiebreaker if the two finish tied so Oklahoma needs Texas A&M to upset Texas the day after Thanksgiving to still have a shot.
The Longhorns would clinch the South if they beat A&M.
