A Tulsa woman returns from vacation to find a man dead in her home. Police say he had been deceased for several days.

A woman returned to her home in the 5100 block of South Richmond Avenue around 5 PM Sunday after being gone for more than a week. She didn't find things as she had left them. Instead, 39-year-old Dan Byers was dead in one of her bedrooms.

Tulsa Police say Byers, whom they believe was murdered, suffered trauma to his upper torso. There was no sign of forced entry to the home. Police say the Byers is a distant relative of the homeowner but did not have permission to be inside the house.

The homeowner told police she had a house-sitter watching her property, but police wouldn't confirm if there was a connection. Tulsa Police Captain Steve Bayles: "Right now we're very early in this investigation. The circumstances of how this occurred or why, we certainly do not know those answers to those questions at this time. But hopefully in the near future this will unfold and we'll be able to answer those."

Tulsa Police were called to the home on Saturday to perform a wellness check, but didn't find anything unusual at the time.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
