Honeymoon continues for Gordon

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) The honeymoon in the desert continues for Jeff Gordon, who won the pole for Sunday's NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway. Kevin Harvick, who won the race there in April, qualified 2nd.

The 4 time series champion married Belgian model Ingrid Vandebosch in Mexico on Tuesday. She was at the race track to help him celebrate the 56th pole of his career. He turned a lap of 134.464 miles per hour.

Jimmie Johnson begins the weekend with a narrow 17-point lead over Matt Kenseth in the Chase for the Championship. Johnson starts 29th and Kenseth in the 10th hole.
