OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Democratic Governor Brad Henry is the odds-on choice to win a second term over Republican Ernest Istook in Tuesday’s general election.
Pollsters believe the tightest statewide races could be for lieutenant governor, labor commissioner and auditor and inspector.
State Election Board Secretary Mike Clingman expects a moderate turnout of about 900,000, or about 44 percent of the more than 2 million registered voters in the state.
Henry would be the third governor to win a successive term if he defeats Istook -- a seven-term conservative congressman who represented Oklahoma Fifth Congressional District.
Oklahoma governors could not succeed themselves until adoption of a constitutional amendment in the 1960s.
