TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Chris Chamberlain broke up a fake field-goal attempt and returned an interception for a touchdown as Tulsa beat Texas-El Paso 30-to-20.
Alain Karatepeyan hit UTEP quarterback Jordan Palmer as he tried to throw to Johnnie Lee Higgins Junior on the first play of the fourth quarter, and Chamberlain ran back the interception 25 yards for his first career touchdown last night.
Courtney Tennial touchdown stretched TU's lead to 30-20 with 8:40 to play.
The Golden Hurricane trailed 20-to-6 after Higgins caught a 69-yard TD pass from Palmer in the third quarter.
But Tulsa roared back, getting a touchdown when Paul Smith hit Donnie Johnson in the back of the end zone. TU later pulled within four on Jarod Tracy's 39-yard field goal.
Palmer threw his only interception to open UTEP's next drive and allow TU to take the lead for the first time since the opening quarter.
Palmer finished 21-for-37 for 253 yards and Higgins caught ten passes for 153 yards.
Smith threw for 176 yards on 16-for-23 passing.
