The University of Tulsa’s football team is off to its best start in two decades. But becoming a big-time football program comes with some big-time game day problems.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson visited the TU campus to show us why the road to a winning season is under construction.

All the highway signs off I-244 point football fans down Delaware Avenue, but they won't be getting very far. The city of Tulsa started a yearlong construction project to rehab the road.

They will be fixing it in phases. They started with the first few blocks that connect Delaware with 11th Street, which runs right in front of Skelly Stadium. The construction on Delaware will be something folks who travel the area will be facing for a while.

The University of Tulsa's David Hamby says Delaware will be pared down from four lanes, to three, making the street safer. “So that's what the project is designed to do, is to streamline and straighten Delaware and also make it more pedestrian friendly, because it does, it cuts right through the middle of campus."

Once you make it on to the TU campus, parking will be at a premium. That is because many lots have been torn up to make way for new construction.
