OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An English professor at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee is portraying Oklahoma's favorite son as part of the state's Centennial celebration.
Doug Watson slows his speech and dons a hat as he transforms into Will Rogers.
Watson is touring Oklahoma on behalf of the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore as one of its statehood centennial promotions. He says he plans to visit about 50 schools by the end of the year.
He says he wants Oklahomans to know that Will Rogers was more than just a cowboy, but an advocate for the common man who consorted with the most powerful people of the day.
Watson says Rogers was a man of integrity who still has something to offer young people of today.
