OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Republican House Speaker Todd Hiett and House Democratic Leader Jari Askins served in the same chamber together for 12 years.

But they're emphasizing their differences as they campaign for lieutenant governor in what is the most expensive race for the position in state history.

Askins has appeared alongside Democratic Governor Brad Henry at some of his re-election campaign appearances. She says the incumbent governor needs a partner to implement his policies if he is returned to office -- not a political opponent who will stand in his way.

Hiett says he's worked well with Henry during his two years as House speaker. But he says he'll promote his conservative, pro-growth agenda in the state's second-highest executive job.
