OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Calling him the Bobby Fischer of politics, an invitation from the gubernatorial campaign of Congressman Ernest Istook asks Republicans to pay $1,000 to be photographed with presidential adviser Karl Rove.
The invitation misspells Fischer's name, but Istook spokesman Derek Kern says it refers to the famous chess player, a US fugitive known for his anti-US and anti-Semitic views.
Rove is considered the mastermind behind President Bush's presidential campaigns and is Bush's top political adviser.
He is scheduled to attend a reception October 9th at the Oklahoma History Center to raise funds for Istook, who faces an uphill struggle against Democratic incumbent Brad Henry.
Kern says Fischer has been touted as a genius in chess, just as Rove is a genius in politics. Kern says the campaign isn't comparing the two on a patriotic level.
