About a dozen agencies across eastern Oklahoma are getting much needed equipment thanks to federal grants from Homeland Security.
The grants are for smaller sized communities across the country. The Owasso Fire Department got $18,000 worth of vehicle extraction equipment. Hydraulic tools enable firefighters to get people out of wrecked vehicles much faster.
Owasso firefighters will train on the new equipment for several days. Owasso Fire Chief Bradd Clark: "it's the difference between night and day from sitting in a classroom and thinking about it or watching a video or reading a book on it."
The Sand Springs and Catoosa Fire Departments also received vehicle extraction equipment through Homeland Security grants.
