A new type of guardrail functioned just as it was suppose to overnight, keeping a Tulsa driver from being seriously injured.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say a woman hit a guardrail near downtown Tulsa just after 3 AM Wednesday.

The newly designed guardrail absorbed the bulk of the impact and peeled away, rather than crushing the car.
