PURCELL, Okla. (AP) -- A Purcell man charged with first-degree murder in the gruesome killing of a 10-year-old girl was formally arraigned Wednesday in McLain County District Court.
Kevin Ray Underwood showed no reaction as district Judge Candace Blalock read the charge and set a trial date of May 7th on charges he killed Jamie Rose Bolen as part of a cannibalistic plot.
His only comments were to answer "yes" when asked several times if he knew what it meant to waive his right to a speedy trial.
The judge entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.
Prosecutors also filed a bill of particulars outlining aggravating circumstances of the crime that they say supports their request for the death penalty if Underwood is convicted.
