DAVIS, Okla. (AP) _ Health officials are urging Oklahomans to take precautions against the spread of viral meningitis.

Two Davis Junior High School boys have been hospitalized with the disease. Public health officials say the two Murray County meningitis cases are not believed to be life threatening.

Meningitis is contagious, but no other suspected cases were reported in the south-central Oklahoma county. School officials say both boys are members of the Davis Junior High School football team.

Laurence Burnsed, interim director of the state Health Department's communicable disease division, says the students suffered symptoms typical of viral meningitis. They included a high fever, headache, extreme fatigue and a stiff neck.
