If you're looking for something to do this Labor Day weekend, head over to the Tulsa Zoo for the early bird special, where four American flamingo chicks have recently hatched.

News on 6 reporter Carina Sonn met the zoo's newest additions.

The American flamingo chicks are only about a month old but it looks like the babies are already getting plenty of attention. There are four new chicks this year, two are currently parent raised and on exhibit, keepers are raising the younger ones.

So how will the parents eventually recognize their babies? Bird keeper Chris Ashley: “once a year they lay one egg and they hatch that egg, and they'll usually hatch them in a group and the babies are then kept in a group. The parents know which baby is there's by the sound, they learn the sound when they're pipping out of the egg."

Chick number three, nicknamed Crush, is lucky he made it out of his egg. His parents accidentally crushed the shell before hatching time but Ashley says Crush has recovered. "It’s a traumatic beginning so we were really glad to see that he pulled through and he's done so well." And now, just enjoying the spotlight.
