OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ State officials are concerned that a change in the homeland security funding formula being considered by Congress could result in fewer dollars for Oklahoma.
Lawmakers in Washington are expected to consider a plan that would distribute funds based on risk of terrorism.
The bill came after complaints from more populous states that their home districts were receiving fewer funds than those with fewer potential terrorism targets. Proponents of the change say it's illogical that states like Wyoming average near the top in per-capita dollars, while states such as California are at the bottom.
Oklahoma currently ranks 33rd in per-capita spending when several programs are considered, averaging about $28 dollars spent per person.
