Hurricane Katrina's impact is being felt at the gas pump.

A check of the News on 6 Gas Gauge shows new record prices in Tulsa. Many stations around town are selling a gallon of regular unleaded for $3.19.

With the price at a new record high, we know how many Oklahomans say they're feeling the pain of rising gas prices and ready to do something about it.

A new Oklahoma Poll from The News on 6 and the Tulsa World has put some hard numbers to the frustration at the gas pump. Half of those we surveyed across the state say prices have created a noticeable hardship for their households. 17 percent say it's an extreme hardship. 32 percent say it hasn't had much effect.

When asked if prices were high enough to force a change in driving habits, nearly 70-percent say yes. And, many Oklahoma drivers are already going beyond driving habits and taking more aggressive steps to reduce their use of gasoline. 40 percent say they have already switched to a more fuel-efficient vehicle. 56 percent say they have not switched. And 20 percent are loyal to their cars and say they wouldn't switch no matter how high gas prices climbed.

The poll shows we’re still loyal to driving. Nearly 70-percent of you say prices are still not high enough to make you switch to alternative transportation like car-pools or buses.
