OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Brad Henry is announcing plans to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Henry says the state Military Department will send two Blackhawk helicopters and nine crew members to help in search-and-rescue operations. An aerial damage assessment team with the Civil Air Patrol will help evaluate damage to homes, businesses and the infrastructure.
Also, the Office of Emergency Management will send a coordinator to help provide food and shelter to victims and coordinate other volunteers and donations. And three foresters from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry are being sent to help clear debris from roadways.
The governor is also encouraging Oklahomans to donate money to agencies such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army or faith-based organizations.
