OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoman died when his small aircraft crashed in Kansas.

Officials with the Butler County, Kansas, Sheriff's Department say 59-year-old John Riffey of Mustang was killed in Saturday's crash southeast of El Dorado, Kansas.

The plane crashed near the El Dorado Correctional Facility. officials say Riffey had traveled to Emporia, Kansas, to pick up the plane and was planning to fly it back to Mustang.

Riffey had left an airport in Emporia and was on his way to El Dorado to pick up a friend. From there, they had planned to fly back to Oklahoma. But they never met up.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the Butler County Sheriff's Department are uncertain what caused the plane to crash. An autopsy is planned on the victim's body.
