Authorities are still investigating a triple homicide in Owasso. Three people, including a 10-year-old girl, were found dead Friday morning in a home near 98th Street North and Garnett.
Owasso Police had identified a person of interest in the case, but Friday evening, they cleared him.
News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims says police were looking for one of the victim's brother in connection with the case. But they now say Jay Thompson is no longer a person of interest and they're pursuing several other leads.
All of the police cars and crime scene tape took a quiet Owasso neighborhood by surprise Friday morning. Neighbor Mitch Nease: "it’s just a normal nice neighborhood for the most part never dreamed anything like this would happen."
Mitch Thompson, his wife Tara Burchett-Thompson and her daughter ten-year-old Kayla Burchett were found dead inside at home in the 9700 block of North 112th East Avenue. A relative found the body of the 10 year-old first, and then Owasso Police discovered the other two bodies. All three had been shot several times.
Police say there was no sign of a struggle inside and no signs of a break-in. Mitch Nease: "it’s pretty scary, pretty scary." Owasso Police searched the area for clues and called in specialists from Tulsa. They thought Mitch Thompson's younger brother; Jay Thompson was staying at the home. And they believed he might have some information about what happened, but they checked Thompson out and dismissed him as a person of interest.
Now they're still looking for the person who may have committed these crimes and police won't speculate on why this happened. Owasso Police Chief Dan Yancey: "it’s very early in the investigation. Hopefully we'll get more information as it progresses; it’s just too early to tell."
If you have any information about this case, please call Owasso Police.
