Oklahoma Natural Gas is raising its rates and it has nothing to do with the price of gasoline. ONG says the rate hike is to cover the cost of doing business.

Customers get to choose between two plans. One is geared toward high usage with a $20 service fee and a low delivery fee. The other plan is geared toward less usage, with a $9 service fee and a higher delivery fee.

The company will recommend the most economical plan on your bill. You pick which plan you want, but you must stay with your choice for a year. ONG vice president Ron Brown: "we're sensitive to the fact that customers don't like increased costs, we don't like increased costs, uh, and we would ask them for their understanding."

ONG hasn't gotten approval from the Corporation Commission for the $58-million hike. If the commission decides the increase is too much, customers will get a refund.

The Attorney General's office is fighting the increase.
