A major accident Thursday morning on the Turner Turnpike outside Oklahoma City kept emergency crews busy and traffic tied up for miles.

The accident happened about ten miles east of the Turnpike Gate near Wellston.

The Highway Patrol confirms a semi-truck hauling lumber is on top of another car.

OHP Troopers say the truck hit a car which was backing up the turnpike attempting to make a U-turn, the truck burst into flames.

The eastbound lanes of the turnpike are now closed, westbound is down to one lane only.

The OHP is also shutting down traffic at the Kilpatrick and I-35 access to the Turner Turnpike.

The driver of the car died. He was 33-year-old Brandon Daniels of Yukon, Oklahoma. Troopers say Daniels is NOT the former Oklahoma football player who played for the Sooners in the late 1990s.

The driver of the semi was able to escape through the passenger side of the cab. He suffered minor injuries.
