It's one more thing to add to that back to school list and if you forget it, your child won't be allowed into class.
Up to date vaccinations are required and they're free at the Tulsa City-County Health Department. Officials say while the biggest concern in recent years is to protect kids from hepatitis, many diseases commonly thought to be wiped out long ago are still around, like polio or whooping cough. And without being immunized, an outbreak could be devastating to your child.
Brenda Dale with the Tulsa City-County Health Department: "It's very important to prevent childhood illnesses if you receive the immunizations if you become infected with one of the childhood illnesses it's going to be less severe."
Health department officials say it's a good idea to beat the rush and get kids immunized now. As school starts parents who've waited will be dealing with long lines.
