Ask Jeeves takes on Google, Yahoo with its own ad network

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Ask Jeeves is launching an upstart advertising network powered by its own search engine.

Ask Jeeves' marketing system, coming out today, follows the same model that has been generating tremendous profit growth for Google and Yahoo during the past three years.

The move begins a new era for Ask Jeeves, but is also expected to rankle its long-time business partner, Google.

The paid search concept has mushroomed into an estimated five-point-four (b) billion dollars industry, accounting for about 42 percent of the nearly 13 (b) billion dollars that advertisers are expected to spend on the Internet this year.
