OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State regulators say Oklahoma's underfunded system for enforcing weight and size restrictins of tractor-trailers is letting dangerous trucks on the road.

Only 39 state troopers make sure drivers comply with size and weight restrictions in a state where 10 percent of all traffic is tractor-trailers.

The executive director of the Oklahoma Trucking Association says most truckers know they won't be weighed in Oklahoma after 4 PM.

Dan Case says it would make more sense to move weigh stations to the state borders.

A spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation says trucks traveling with too much weight are more likely to mar pavement or weaken bridges.
