The SafeKids Coalition has some advice for parents heading out to Tulsa area pools or lakes with their kids.
They remind everyone that the law states kids must wear a certified life jacket while on the boat. Also, there must be a life jacket for every passenger on the boat and they suggest keeping the vest on.
Jana Ketchel with the SAFEKIDS Coalition: " It's not good enough to have the life jacket sitting next to you where ever you are on the boat, because if you fall, you're unprepared for it, it's not neccessarily going to end up next to you in the water. Wearing it is the best defense against those types of accidents."
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says boaters are responsible for the waves they create from their boat, so they advise boaters to be careful to not splash or cause a disturbance that could result in an accident.
