The 39th Porter Peach Festival kicks off Friday evening. It’s a chance to celebrate Oklahoma's peach harvest.

We sent New on 6 reporter Rick Wells to check out this year's crop of Porter peaches.

Business is brisk at the Livesay Orchard down in Porter. Its Porter Peach Festival time and the crop is pretty good. Kent Livesay: "might have been a little freeze damage back in January that kept 'em from blooming a little bit but it's probably 80 percent of ideal." He not smiling but he's pretty happy. If you're hungry for peaches or stuff made from peaches you've come to the right place.

Sliced peaches, peach cobbler, peach halves, peach butter and peach preserves. They even pass out samples. Kent Livesay: "She's passing out samples of the different varieties." Brenda Livesay says if you're just not sure which peach is which, she can help. "I like Lorings if I'm gonna cook or freeze." There are the Glen Havens, a little sweeter she says but they tend to be a little mushier in a pie. Then there is the LaPremier, a small peach with a giant flavor.

They have got about 120 acres of peach trees. The picking goes on throughout the summer, with different varieties coming on every couple of weeks and as the peaches come in from the orchard, they are heading out the front door just about as fast. Kent Livesay: "we grow tomatoes but those are peaches."

Some are going to a produce stand down in Preston. A van load is heading home. Mom came for the peaches; the kids are just along for the ride.

The Porter Peach Festival kicks off Friday evening in downtown Porter. There will be fun, games and music for the whole family and of course, peaches. The festival runs through Saturday evening.
