OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma City lawmaker says he will introduce legislation to requiring employers to allow parents to take unpaid leave to attend school programs.

Democrat Mike Shleton says his measure would bring the business community in line with President Bush's ``No Child Left Behind Act''.

Under Sheltons's proposal, employers would be prevented from penalizing parents who take time off to attend school functions. The measure would allow up to eight hours a year.

Parents would be required to give reasonable notice to employers of when they would be absent because of a school function.

The No Child Left Behind Act encourages parental involvement in their children's education.
