Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin says she will -not- run for governor next year. Instead, she'll run for re-election.
Fallin based her decision on what happened during this last legislative session. She says the role of Lieutenant Governor and Senate President could become more crucial in coming years. Results from the latest News on 6, Tulsa World "Oklahoma Poll" show Fallin is probably making the right decision.
The poll asked if the gubernatorial election were held today would you vote for Democrat incumbent Brad Henry or Republican Mary Fallin. The statewide results show 48-percent would re-elect Governor Henry. Only 27-percent would have voted for Fallin.
Former Congressman JC Watts says he's been encouraged to run for the Republican nomination, but he's still in the "listening" stage. The Oklahoma Poll shows Governor Henry would win against Watts as well. More than 48-percent of those polled said they would pick Henry. Almost 34-percent said they'd vote for Watts. Among Tulsa voters, Henry and Watts are tied.
Governor Henry says he does plan to run for re-election. Right now, he's enjoying a high approval rating. 72-percent of those surveyed say Henry is doing a good job. 17.5 percent disapprove.
The Oklahoma Poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percent. For a closer look at all these results, pick up Friday's edition of the Tulsa World.
