WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- US Congressman Frank Lucas plans to travel to Canada this week to express his concerns on reopening the US border to Canadian beef trade.
Members of the Agriculture Committee will accompany Lucas, who says all parties involved in the decision need a greater understanding of what a potential reopened market will mean for US producers.
Lucas says he has thinks opening a dialogue will be helpful to those involved.
The delegation will meet with government officials and officials from the Canadian Cattlemen's Association.
They will also visit a federal, feedlot and processing facility.
Delegates plan to meet with industry representatives to gain a better understanding of the current status of the Canadian meat industry, and the effects on the US meat industry.
