ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) _ EchoStar Communications Corp., the No. 2 direct broadcast satellite television provider in the U.S., said Monday that it appointed Michael A. Neuman as president and chief operating officer. Its shares rose in nearly trading.
Neuman comes to EchoStar from Bell Canada Enterprises unit Bell Mobility, where he last served as president. He fills a position that has been vacant for more than a year following the April 2004 retirement of Michael Dugan. Neuman will oversee day-to-day operations and focus on financial and strategic initiatives.
Neuman also served as president of Bell ExpressVu Satellite Television, WorldLinx Telecommunications and Cerberus Canada.
The company also appointed board member Carl Vogel to the position of vice chairman. Vogel joined the board in May and was most recently president and chief executive of cable television company Charter Communications.
Vogel also served as EchoStar president from 1994 to 1997 and was a key member of the executive team that created EchoStar's Dish Network.
