OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A judge says former state Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher must stand trial on charges that led to his resignation.
Oklahoma County Special Judge Fred Doak ruled yesterday Fisher must stand trial for embezzlement, operating a charity illegally, perjury, bribery and filing a false income tax return.
Doak also says Fisher's former assistant, Opal Ellis, will be tried on embezzlement, operating a charity illegally and filing false claims against the state counts.
Both have pleaded innocent.
Doak rejected arguments that the multicounty grand jury that indicted fisher and Ellis didn't have jurisdiction in the case.
Fisher resigned on September 24th after being impeached by the state House.
