Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune helped with a groundbreaking in north Tulsa Friday. The Northgate Neighborhood on 63rd Street North started a two-day beautification project and will soon have a new neighborhood entrance sign.
Volunteers also painted homes for families who couldn't afford it. One man has lived there for more than 20 years and is excited about the changes. Alfred Higgins: "I say this is like a dream come true. I've seen some ups and downs in the neighborhood and there's been a lot of high crime area out here, and I'm glad to see things changing."
The mayor also proclaimed June to be National Homeownership Month in Tulsa.
Operation Beautification wraps up Saturday with a clean-up of trash and debris in the neighborhood.
