18 year old Tulsa area teen is free after serving less than 4 years for murder

The state will no longer monitor a teenager convicted of murder in 2002. A Tulsa judge ordered the tracking device taken off of 18-year old Mitchell Roberts, even though prosecutors want it to stay on the teen.

6 in the Morning reporter Omar Villafranca says Mitchell Roberts is now free, after serving less than four years for murder.

Roberts was only 15 when he pleaded guilty to killing 71-year old Donald Green back in 2002. Roberts' mother was dating JB Cole when police say Cole beat the elderly man to death and drove to Kentucky to dump the body.

Roberts was later found with Green's car and led police to a Kentucky ditch where the body was found. Both Cole and Mitchell were charged with the murder. Cole was sentenced to live in prison without parole. Roberts was only sentenced to a 10-year term because he was a youthful offender.

The State Office of Juvenile Affairs filed a series of positive reports on Robert's progress and now 3 years later, he's free.
