A murder suspect stabs himself at a south Tulsa apartment complex.
News on 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright says police had gotten a tip that Kelvin Lucas was in a Tulsa apartment at 5800 South Owasso Wednesday morning and just as they were making entry, they saw Lucas pick up a butcher knife and ram it into his stomach.
Paramedics felt it safest to leave the knife in him while they transported him to a hospital. Tulsa Police say Lucas was conscious but not really responding. Homicide detectives had been in the process of filing paperwork to get an arrest warrant for Lucas in the death of his estranged wife Tadessa Lucas. She was found shot to death in her midtown Tulsa apartment on Monday.
Officers say it's not unusual for a suspect to try to harm himself, but Wednesday's situation was unusual. Tulsa Police Sgt. Mike Huff: "To be right there when it happened is a bit unique for us. So, now, we're just going to search the apartment for any evidence related to this and move on."
Detectives also arrested the woman who lives at the apartment on an unrelated felony warrant.
Tulsa Police expect Lucas to be in the hospital for a few days.
