The historic Oklahoma Land Run took place 117 years ago Friday, so some students decided to re-live history.

Fourth graders at Monte Cassino dressed up and made their own covered wagons to re-enact the 1889 land run and stake their own claims outside in the school yard. It was a day to learn all about Oklahoma history.

Fourth grade teacher Gail Branch: "We have guest speakers all day, we've had trick ropers, we've had square dancers. Okie Dokie has been here teaching us about the 14 flags that have flown over Oklahoma, so it's just a big day."

An Oklahoma Indian Historian discouraged Native American parents from allowing their children to take part in Land Run celebrations. He says it came at the expense of Indians and wants Oklahomans to know both sides of the story.
