Osage County Sheriff Wes Penland lost his battle with cancer. The 62-year-old died Saturday at his home.

Penland was in office less than a year after winning the general election. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services are set for Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Pawhuska.
