FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ An NCAA study of academic progress among college athletes found some programs at Arkansas lacking.

But the study said the school will not have to give up any scholarships before of the deficiencies.

The Razorbacks' baseball and cross-country teams fell below standards set by the NCAA, according to figures released yesterday. Most sports teams were in good standing.

The Razorback baseball team ranked 11th out of 12 teams in the SEC, a rate blamed on a number of players either transferring or entering the Major League draft. Arkansas' cross country team finished last among the 10 SEC teams in the sport.

The Academic Progress Rates program was started last year by the NCAA to hold Division I schools accountable for the academic performance of their student-athletes. This is the first year that the NCAA could penalize teams by taking away scholarships.

The Arkansas men's basketball team ranked second-best in the Southeastern Conference, behind only Vanderbilt.

99 teams at 65 Division One schools will lose scholarships because of poor academic performances by student-athletes.

In the SEC, Tennessee will lose just over one baseball scholarship and Ole Miss will lose about half of an indoor men's track and field scholarship.
