OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma City Police Department is turning to advertising in an effort to recruit new officers.
The department's campaign includes print, radio and billboard advertising and follows a similar, six-week campaign by Dallas police. The Dallas department used billboard ads in Oklahoma City and four surrounding states in an effort to get officers.
Police recruiters say federal agencies such as the military and the FBI have been getting many of the most-qualified applicants since the 9-11 terror attacks.
The starting salary for Oklahoma City officers who've completed their training and probationary period is $40,391a year.
