One of David Letterman's most popular recurring segments is Stupid People Tricks. Every once in a while someone from Oklahoma makes the show and this week it could happen again.
News on 6 reporter Rick Wells talked to Betty Bell who's on her way to The Late Show in New York City.
Betty Bell is giddy, she's on her way to the Late Show with David Letterman, the stupid people tricks segment, because she whistles.
"I learned to whistle through my toes when I was 14." You heard it, whistles through her toes. Actually she was trying without success to learn to whistle through her fingers then a friend suggested her toes kind of looked like fingers. "I said wonder if I could whistle with them I'm having no luck with my fingers, I tried it and it worked."
She was on her way; big crowds don't seem to bother her. She won a contest once at Promenade Mall. "I dressed as a snowman and did Christmas tunes, I won a thousand bucks for that." She was on her way to the big time.
Last fall, the News on 6 held an open audition for Stupid Pet and People tricks. Betty put her best foot forward, so to speak and got a trip to New York City. "I'm gonna compete against five people." Three of those will get on the show.
Come on Dave, the woman whistles between her toes.
To help her cause with the late show folks, a friend hand painted Dave's likeness on the big toe of her whistling foot, complete with glasses.
As a little send-off serenade, she whistled “Happy Birthday†to a good friend.
The Stupid People Tricks segment is scheduled for Wednesday night's show. It airs on the News on 6, starting at 10:35 PM.
