ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) _ Communities throughout south-central Oklahoma are making today Firefighter Appreciation Day.

Communities in Jefferson, Johnston, Love, Marshall and Murray counties are accepting donations and hosting fund-raising events to help 67 departments.

Activities are scheduled in Ardmore, Dickson, Dillard, Fox, Gene Autry, Marietta and several other cities.

Proceeds from the events will go to help departments recover from financial drain caused by recent wildfires.
